A braiding fork or knitting fork also called a lucet is used for making cords. The tool and technique dates from the Middle Ages and was used by the Vikings for making rope.

This is a fun activity done in Steiner Schools in Kindergarten and Class 1 as well as being the perfect craft tool for the Class 4 Steiner Curriculum when the Vikings are studied.

In contrast to cords that are made with for example a braid star these cords consist of a series of loops that could be considered "knotted". This creates a very sturdy elastic square cord which does not fully unravel when a thread snaps.

There is no limit to the length so you can have lots of fun making very long strong cords.

Lightly oiled Wood 16cm long.
